DID YOU KNOW? Fourth Sunday of Advent
On the fourth week of Advent, we light the final purple candle which symbolizes peace and love. This candle is called the “Angel’s Candle,” reminding us of the message of the angels: “Peace on Earth, Good Will Toward Men.” Lighting this last candle is a time when we truly feel that peace, the frantic pace of the busy preparation season is winding down, and the thought of the Lord being with us soon gives us an inner peace —a peace that our busy and battered world craves and truly needs.
During this final week of Advent, we rejoice in the endless love that God has for us, which is made apparent in the birth of his Son. We reflect on the good news of God's love brought to us by the angel Gabriel. This is the last week to prepare our hearts for the joy of Christmas. Are you ready?
¿LO SABÍAS? Cuarto Domingo de Adviento
En la cuarta semana de Adviento, encendemos la última vela morada que simboliza la paz y el amor. Esta vela se llama la "Candela del Ángel", recordándonos el mensaje de los ángeles: "Paz en la Tierra, Buena Voluntad hacia los Hombres." Encender esta última vela es un momento en el que realmente sentimos esa paz, el ritmo frenético de la ajetreada temporada de preparación está llegando a su fin, y la idea de que el Señor esté con nosotros pronto nos da una paz interior, una paz que nuestro mundo ocupado y maltrecho anhela y realmente necesita.
Durante esta última semana de Adviento, nos alegramos del amor infinito que Dios tiene por nosotros, que se hace evidente en el nacimiento de su Hijo. Reflexionamos sobre las buenas nuevas del amor de Dios que nos trajo el ángel Gabriel. Esta es la última semana para preparar nuestros corazones para la alegría de la Navidad. ¿Estás listo?

But obedient to the voice of God, he changed those plans and became instead the protector of the child Jesus and His mother Mary. God grant that I mat be as open to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

United Christian Alliance Response https://www.uca-response.org/ This group grew out of Hurricane Helene Relief Efforts and have supported our supply center and food pantry for more than a year now. Founder and Director, Ciara Maynard, says “While any amount is appreciated, I believe that even a small donation can make a significant difference. Just as Jesus fed the 5,000 with five loaves and two fish, we trust that with a modest monthly contribution, we can help those in need.”
Hope For Indigent Persons https://hopeforindigentpersons.com/ is the non-profit started by Father Anthony’s friend, Sister Hilda. Her organization can turn a small donation into a big change for people in Nigeria and other parts of the world experiencing extreme poverty. Sister Hilda was inspired to “do something” after hearing the reports last December of people being trampled to death at food distribution sites in Nigeria. “People, children, were dying while trying to get a bag of rice,” she said.
Valley Hope Foundation https://www.valleyhopefoundation.org/ also started after Hurricane Helene. They have three programs, disaster response, food distribution, and long-term recovery. This group supports our food pantry with donations of produce each week. Sarah Carpenter, secretary and board member, even called me—at home—on Thanksgiving weekend to make sure we were scheduled for a produce pick up this week.
Catholic Charities https://ccdoc.org/ Catholic Charities helps our communities in so many ways. They’ve supported our charitable giving with gift cards and donations of food and goods for our work with the elementary school students.
